Uruk, in the eighth year of Gilgamesh's reign, in the first of the seven bad years. On a roof at night Enkidu finishes telling a dream in which four gods sat and argued and one decided, and the decision is that a man must die for the cedar and the Bull, and the name is his. There is no appeal, and the city tries all of them. He is twelve days about it and none of it is beautiful. What the king does afterward is refuse to let him be buried for six days and seven nights, and then bury him under a river, and then walk out of the unfinished gate in a lion's skin to find the one man who was ever exempted from this.
