Read it:
Uruk, in the eighth year of Gilgamesh's reign. Brick is mud and mud goes back to the river, and the king has decided that a name has to be cut into something harder. Northwest, past the last village, is a forest of cedar and a guardian appointed to keep it, who wears seven radiances and hears a bough break at sixty leagues. Every elder in Uruk votes against the expedition and fifty men go anyway. What Gilgamesh and Enkidu do in that clearing is the most famous thing either of them will ever do, and it is watched from the sky, and the price is set by somebody else. By the month of the date harvest a goddess has been refused in public, and Uruk owes seven years of husks.
